Go hide under a rock and you’ll still won’t be able to escape Sarodj Bertin. She’s literally everywhere. Well, practically. Whether in Haiti doing work for her Sarodj With A Purpose Foundation or in Miami attending a red carpet event, or on a film set, she makes her presence felt. The former Miss Haiti has never wavered from her self-proclaimed mission of creating a better Haiti. Presenting…the Sarodj Bertin interview.
Kreyolicious: What’s the latest with Sarodj With a Purpose, your foundation?
Sarodj Bertin: We are still working with the orphans in Haiti, The kids are and will always be my biggest passion, and I wish I could do more for them every day. I have always had the dream of building a technical and professional school for the orphans, and I am still working on that project, but it definitely has taken more time than I thought.
Kreyolicious: What have you been up to lately?
Sarodj Bertin: At the beginning of this year, I moved to Los Angeles to focus on my acting career. I have been working on several projects. I just finished shooting a pilot for a TV show [entitled] “Alpha Hippie”, and currently shooting a movie Chocolate City 3. [So I’m] working hard every day in becoming the best version of myself, so I can always be ready for when the opportunities knock at my door. [Smiles]
Kreyolicious: Do you see entrepreneurship as being something you’d like to undertake? I mean, you already have the legal part covered and all.
Sarodj Bertin: Yes in is, and I have already started. I have a brand of jeans…Sarodj Jeans, which you can find on Instagram at @sarodj_jeans. I am working on producing couple of projects now. My passion for acting cannot stay there. I need to go further and be part of the business.

Kreyolicious: Some people feel that a woman’s independence can be her downfall. What are your thoughts?
I believe that we are the only ones that can set our downfall, and it is always a choice. I choose to not have any downfalls, because I believe in myself and I believe in what I am doing, and I am certain of where I am going…
We don’t need anybody’s approval. We work. We grow. We are for our own selves. This is what makes us independent and strong women…
Real independence just means being able to take care of yourself, both emotionally and physically…which doesn’t mean that we can’t rely on anyone…it just means that we do it as a choice not because we need to.
Kreyolicious: You’re quite accomplished…from beauty queen, to woman of law, to actress. What else would you like to accomplish over the course of your lifetime?
Sarodj Bertin: I have so many things I want to accomplish in life. Every time I achieve a goal, I create a bigger one. I will always be working towards a goal, and I will always be working towards my personal growth, because that’s what keeps me alive…the desire to do more for others, to create, to grow, and become a better me every day.
