Habitation Jouissant, one of Haiti’s most popular boutique hotels has been added to Marriott’s Autograph Collection Hotels. Habitation Jouissant hotel is located in Cap Haitien, and was originally built in the late 1950s.
But isn’t Port-au-Prince where it’s at? Well, not according to trends. Marriott’s Vice President of Development for Mexico and the Caribbean, Alejandro Acevedo made this statement to Kreyolicious: “Cap Haitien is the second most important city in Haiti and has an International Airport and a mix of business. Some of the business is created by Caracol Industrial Park, demand from NGOs, construction companies, consultants, international financial institutions and leisure demand as well.”
Haiti’s capital is “From a hotel perspective, there is a limited amount hotel rooms and meeting space in the city, and no branded hotels in the market.”
So, is this an acquisition or a partnership? Well, it isn’t an acquisition. “This is an independently owned hotel that is part of our Autograph Collection,” explains Acevedo to Kreyolicious. “Autograph Collection Hotels celebrates individuality by curating one-of-a-kind travel experiences at more than 90 luxury lifestyle hotels found in the world’s most desirable destinations. Exactly like nothing else, each hotel has been hand selected for its distinction as an iconic landmark, for its remarkable design or for its best-in-class resort amenities.”
Acevedo explains that Habitation Jouissant is especially appealing because of its unique and elevated location on a hill that provides great views of the ocean in the historical city. “Today the hotel has a total of 13 rooms,” Acevedo points out, “but will undergo an extensive renovation and an expansion to have 100 rooms with two restaurants, two pools, a fitness center and meeting rooms.”
According to Marriott’s website, the hotel giant has 6 hotels in the Caribbean in its Autograph Collection—five in the Bahamas and one in the Virgin Islands. The renovation for Habitation Jouissant is set to be completed in 2017.
